Little Medical School - Calgary programs are taught by knowledgeable instructors with a lifelong love of teaching children and sharing their experiences of the medical industry. Most of our instructors are health and science graduates and professionals, registered nurses, and medical doctors - all with a gift for the classroom and a natural rapport with excited young students.

All of our instructors and volunteer instructors must pass a rigorous background check and are trained in Little Medical School programs and methodology.

 

Rebecca

"I love being a Little Medical School instructor because it allows myself to bring my passion of healthcare and pediatrics in one setting. I wish could have attended programs similar to ones that LMS provides when I was a child which just makes me all the more excited to facilitate them for kids today. I am always looking forward to combining my love of nursing and children at LMS."

Rebecca is registered nurse who graduated from Mount Royal University. Among the multiple practicums working with children when she was a student nurse, she also have been babysitting children of various ages for 10 years. She has always have known since a young age that she wanted to work with kids and always wanted them to be involved in whatever career path they choose. She became passionate about nursing progressing through her degree and then she found her niche in pediatrics and mental health.

In the next few years, she says she can see herself continuing to inspire future healthcare professionals at Little Medical School while practicing as a Registered Nurse. She aspires to someday to continue her education and eventually become a Nurse Practitioner. She wants to continue to promote health as a healthcare professional in various communities and be a strong advocate for my patients and clients.

 

Suky

“Young children are extremely curious and eager to learn. Little Medical School has provided a platform where I get to explain complicated medical phenomenon in a palatable, exciting way. I enjoy seeing the children thrilled to act out the functions of various organs. Most importantly, I enjoy answering their questions.” 

Sukanya is a current medical student at University of Alberta and has Master’s degree in neuroscience from University of Calgary. Before entering medical school, she has been teaching and inspiring kids at Little Medical School - Calgary for over a year. Before joining the Little Medical School team, she has had ample amount of teaching and tutoring experiences throughout high school and undergraduate. Sukanya has also volunteered at Calgary Public Library ESL Conversation Club as an instructor, facilitating weekly language development classes. Her long-term career goal is to practice medicine.

Outside of academics, Sukanya is an avid traveler and loves to visit new places and meet new people. She joined Air Canada’s team of flight attendants to help her realize her dream of traveling all over the world. At present, she is at 21 countries and counting.

 

Dana

"I love working with Little Medical School because it brings my passion for science and healthcare together with the fun of teaching and inspiring kids!"

Dana is a PhD candidate at the University of Calgary studying Nutrition, Metabolism and Genetics. Her research focuses on how antibiotic exposure in early life can alter metabolism and nutritionally interventions to mitigate these changes. She have always loved working with kids, starting off as a babysitter and skating instructor in high school. Eventually she started working at a daycare during the summers between university and volunteering with Sunday schools, breakfast clubs, reading groups and a pregnancy care center. In the next few years, she hopes to finish her PhD and enter into medical school at the University of Calgary.

 

 

 

Somya

"Becoming an Instructor at Little Medical School has been an incredible experience. Seeing elementary and middle school children learning about medical terms, various instruments and about the human body has become inspirational for the student and me. Seeing children use medical instruments and role playing really aspires them and teaches what medicine is all about. Being an instructor at this program has definitely been a dream come true."

Somya earned an Associate Degree in Health Science from the University of Antigua and is currently at 4th year University student at the University of Calgary currently doing my Bachelors in Chemistry. Before becoming an Instructor at Little Medical School, she has volunteered for Little Medical School's summer program. While volunteering for Little Medical School - Calgary, she soon became very impressed with the values and amazing teaching techniques that LMS had to offer. Eventually becoming an instructor at LMS has definitely become a dream come true to her.

Her future goal is to get accepted into medical school where she would fulfill her own dream of becoming a doctor. She looks forward to aspire these young minds on how wonderful it would be to become a doctor. Her main objective with working at Little Medical School is to encourage and care for the children by giving them adequate amount of information to further their knowledge in sciences and explore a career in the healthcare field.

 

Meagan

"I love working with children. Little Medical School combines my interest in science, health and inspiring kids."

Meagan has a Bachelor of Science Degree Major in Biology and has gained a lot of experience instructing kids through her years of coaching at the City of Edmonton Green Shack Program and for the City of Calgary as a Recreation Leader. She has coached multiple basketball teams, tutored children, and volunteered abroad at a daycare and a summer camp. Meagan has been with Little Medical School for 2 years and she has always been a favourite among our little medical school students. She is currently pursuing her medical school applications and her passion in medicine really shines whenever she talks to kids.

 

 

Karen

“What I love about being a Little Medical School – Calgary instructor is seeing the smiles and excitement on my students’ faces. It warms my heart. What is even better is that I get to teach them what I am passionate about. They inspire me!”

Karen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological sciences with a Sociology minor from the University of Alberta and is currently pursuing another degree in teaching at Saint Mary's University. She has been with Little Medical School - Calgary for 2 years and she has found her passion in inspiring kids in the classroom. She been a volunteer teacher to Grade 1 students for Science Fundamentals Club, at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Canadian Blood Services and a researcher at University of Alberta studying mast cell exocytosis.

Growing up in a huge family, she has always been surrounded with lots of kids. She has been taking care of her little nephews and nieces and was bagged as their “favorite Auntie”.
